Back at School …

So this week I’ve been helping out at my olf primary school, Galston Primary, and just getting a feel what being a Primary Teacher is all about. On Monday afternoon I was stuck teaching P7’s how to make a PowerPoint presentation on a really nice Imac G5 and then was struck down with a really bad cold. It’s really interesting what has stayed the same since all those years i was there (about 11 years ago i left):

  • Pupils holding thier hands up and using the other hand to keep the hand thats up elevated
  • The gasp (”Oh me … mee”) as the teacher says can someone clean the blackboard
  • There’s always “one” in the class that spoils it for everyone

  • But the funniest thing that happened this week was today in P6. We were showing the class how to make Limerick (You know “There once was a man from Kentucket ……”) and the example had been shown and the kids were to write on thereselves. Out of the cornor of my eye, at the back, i see one kid really struggling. I go to Investigate and she had written:

There once was a Robot called Max,
Who always stuffed his face with Snacks.
    His belly was orange,
    …………….

This Kid wasn’t going to change it even when i told her that no word in the English language ryhmes with orange.
Ahh well the joys of being a teacher :)

One Response to “Back at School …”

      Don’t forget about Blorenge. http://www.sewhgpgc.co.uk/blorenge7.html

There once was a Robot called Max,
Who always stuffed his face with Snacks.
      His belly was orange,
      …as big Mount Blorenge,
As he drank only paraffin wax.

Not bad I’d say, considering what I had to work with!
